Now Healthcare Group ceased trading in May 2020
The company started trading in 2015 with an Apple-only mobile health care application written with PHP. They soon realised that this was short-sighted and decided to create an API that they could be consumed through general HTML5 web-browsers.
They obtained a large client who was interested in their API but their timescales were ridiculously short as their client wanted the API immediately but it hadn’t been started at that time. Now Healthcare wanted to use .net core (c#), despite it’s still being a beta product at that time. They used an Azure SQL Database back-end.
Working closely in a small dedicated .net team within a larger team of multi-platform developers, designers, and testers, we created and delivered a secure .net core REST API. The team environment was Agile assisted by Atlassian tools (Jira, Bitbucket).
The contract was fixed length; purely for the build of the corporate API after which the permanent staff would take charge.
Key achievements
- Built a secure Web API to deliver health care services to mobile devices.
- Software created using .net core beta (originally dubbed .net 5) in Visual Studio 2015, before it was released.
- Azure database and application hosting.
- Created Integration tests using Postman.
- Integrated Swashbuckle Ahoy v5.0 to automatically build Swagger definitions (beta software).
- Very tight timescales and code restrictions due to data compatibility with a legacy application.
- Constant change during the development s the legacy application was also being altered to make it compatible with the new API.
- The development environment was highly secure as we were building a health care product, regulated by the Care Quality Commission (cqc.gov.uk).
